Wailord 162/159 – Journey Together Illustration Rare Pokémon

An absolutely brilliant Wailord Illustration Rare from Journey Together, and one of those cards where the artwork really captures what makes the Pokémon special.

Wailord’s enormous size dominates the centre of the card as it dives vertically beneath the surface, surrounded by a colourful coral reef. The tiny details around it — coral, bubbles, underwater vegetation and the distant rocky coastline above the water — give the artwork a fantastic sense of scale.

There’s also something wonderfully peaceful about this one. Rather than showing Wailord attacking or crashing through the ocean, it’s simply exploring its natural environment, with the sunlight and rainbow-like foil effect bringing the underwater scene to life.

The artwork even plays into Wailord’s Pokédex lore, with the card itself noting that Wailord watching is a popular sightseeing activity because of its immense size.
